Bradley Kerl
Beeville Art Museum, Beeville, TX
29 April - 29 July 2023
Beeville Art Museum will feature the work of Bradley Kerl April 29 – July 29, 2023. Kerl’s work is often inspired by his daily life, with a special appreciation for the influence of light and color on the scenes around him. An artist’s reception, free to the public, is scheduled for Saturday, April 29, from noon to 2:00 p.m.
Inspired by Henri Matisse, Pierre Bonnard, Alex Katz and David Hockney, Kerl’s work often features flora and/or ordinary household objects, like a fish bowl, bringing them to life in an intriguing and unexpected way. His expressive color, flattened shapes, and indelible mark-making set his work between representational realism and abstract expressionism. “They say paint what you know, and I’ve always found inspiration in the people, places, and things that surround me and that make up my daily experience,” observed Kerl. “I love the idea of using something seemingly banal and/or recognizable as the vehicle for radical painterly exploration.” Born in Beaumont, Texas and currently residing in Houston, Kerl received his BFA in Drawing & Paining from The University of North Texas in Denton and his MFA in painting from the University of Houston. In 2017, Texas Monthly named him one of "10 Artists to Collect Now". “Bradley is the perfect artist to feature as we welcome spring,” commented Executive Director Tracy Saucier. “His work is wonderfully fresh and his use of color draws in the viewer to experience simple scenes of everyday life.”
The Beeville Art Museum, created and operated by the Joe Barnhart Foundation, is first and foremost a teaching museum, providing cultural and educational opportunities for the citizens of Bee County and surrounding areas. Cited by Texas Monthly magazine as one of the “great small towns for art,” Beeville, with a population of approximately 13,000, is home to one of the most ambitious art and educational programs in Texas. In addition to exhibiting works by some of Texas’s most renowned artists, as well as selections from private collections and major museums across the state, the Beeville Art Museum provides docent-led tours and art classes for children and adults and workshops for Beeville educators at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
Bradley Kerl will be on display April 29 – July 29, 2023 at the Beeville Art Museum, 401 E. Fannin, Beeville, TX, 78102. The museum is open to the public 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is always free.
